ADSL Web Hosting
What is Adsl Web Hosting? One would imagine it is some kind of fast internet web site hosting service, that is what it kind of sounds like to me. 
However, adsl and web hosting are really two separate things.
Adsl is a technology for connecting your personal computer to the internet. It is also known as a type of "broadband", and is hundreds of times faster than an old-fashioned dial-up internet connection.
For instance, downloading a program file like Internet Explorer, which I recall used to take over an hour on the dial-up access I had many years ago, will require only a minute or so if you have an Adsl connection to the world wide web.
Web hosting packages are usually sold separate from internet access subscriptions. Actually, I have never really heard about Adsl connections/modems being offered in conjunction with web hosting plans.
OK, I do recall that back in the good old days of dial-up internet, the companies offering this service would often throw in some server storage space as part of the deal. This was really just intended for putting up some pictures of your beer can collection or your favorite pet.
Real web hosting is something else. Nowadays, you can easily find an affordable web site hosting plan with lots of nice features for just a couple of dollars per month. And getting your very own domain name is cheap, too - less than ten dollars per year.
One thing to have in mind, though: Make sure you do your homework before deciding on a cheap web hosting package. There are many companies out there that give you unreliable service. Learn how to avoid them!
Some tips:
- Don't trust fabulous offers. If it sounds fantastic, there's likely a catch
- Don't believe most of the praise you see about a host. It may well be advertising in disguise
- Do favor hosts with a track record. It shows they are viable, plus it's easier to find real information on them
- Do find out what people really think about the host. Dig out authentic customer opinions
- Do ask pre-sales questions. At least this will weed out those companies that don't even bother to fake a good first impression...
If you follow those tips, you should have a very good chance of avoiding the Mean Monkeys in the Web Hosting Jungle.
